The Lake County Domestic Relations Court is a division of the Lake County Common Pleas Court. The Court hears civil cases pertaining to families involved in divorce, dissolution of marriage, annulment, and legal separation. The Court resolves issues regarding property division, division of debts, and spousal support. In cases involving children under eighteen (18) years of age, the Court must make important decisions regarding where the children will reside, financial support, and visitation. The Court also hears all post-divorce motions after the marriage has terminated, and retains jurisdiction to enforce its own orders and to modify issues relating to the custody of children and child support.
In addition to the above, the Court presides over cases involving the registration of certain non-Ohio divorce decrees and the establishment and enforcement of foreign support orders. The Court also hears domestic violence petitions filed pursuant to R.C. §3113.31 whereby domestic violence victims may be granted a Civil Protection Order (CPO).
